KindofBlue MediaWiki Skin

I have been messing around with Mediawiki for a while after installing it at work. One thing I didn't like off the bat was the default monobook skin, so I decided to create my own. I needed something clean, simple, user friendly and without all of the extra whitespace that most skins come with. After a little coding, KindofBlue was born. It is primarily based off of the Fratman skin, with a few elements of Redeye sprinkled in. It works fine on MediaWiki 1.9 and has been tested in FireFox 2, IE6 and IE7.

Dear Jeff,

I'd like to use your skin (KindofBlue) for my wiki, but I really wanna have a logo on the very top of the page. Could you help me with how to do that?

my adres is davinianl'at'gmail'dot'com

Hi Jeff

I would just like to say thanks for creating this stylish and clean looking skin , I am using it on our cookery wiki at cooking.weloveit.info

I`ve noticed that sometimes the sidebar changes from left aligned to centered , have a look at some the of recipes on the site and see.

I`ve tried it with Firefox and Opera so I don`t think its a browser issue.

Thanks
Mark

Thank you for this tidy, clean skin!

Your wiki skin (nice by the way) no longer seems to be available at Mediawiki.

Any chance of it reappearing?

*doh* - found it now. :-)

Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. Sorry for those that left questions and I haven't replied. I thought I had the blog set to email me when comments were posted and I didn't. I checked for about a month, then forgot to check back. I've been busy because my wife and I had our first child.

I'll try to look into some of your questions as time permits.

@headphones - the wysiwyg toolbar shows up on my wiki. I believe it is under "my preferences" -> "editing".

@Mark - could you give me an example of a page that is center aligned? I can't seem to find one on your site.

@dragonlady - you will need to edit kindofblue/main.css to add the #p-logo styles back in. To start, copy the ones from monobook/main.css into my main.css and place it below the styles for #p-cactions. I think you will need to delete the "top", "left", "position" and "z-index" attributes from the main #p-logo style.

Hi Jeff,

I really like your skin and would like to use it for a wiki, but we are running mediawiki 1.6.10 and can't really upgrade it.

Do you know what I might have to change to get it to run?
Thanks,
Suvir

@suvirvenkataraman:

Sorry, I've never looked at that version and don't have any plans to back port the skin.

@rajkumar:

Thanks for the compliments. I'm not actively working on it because it has been working fine for us. I can't promise I will implement them, but I am open to suggestions.

When I tried to readd the top logo back in using the instructions you provided for "dragonlady", the logo appeared correctly in Firefox 2.0, but in IE7, the logo appeared right over the navigation menu, leaving dead space above the menu. Any ideas?

This skin is awesome! I only have one problem; when I add a logo, it shows up fine in IE6 but not IE7 and the positioning is off. Any hints at what to look at or edit? I went through the other steps you wrote above; didn't completely work or I am missing something.

hey jeff -- just installed this skin, its nice and clean. i did notice a problem. i see that you arent actively working on it at this point, but i thought i would let you know in hopes you might update sometime! :-)

there are two 'Toolbox' sections, one all in caps, and the other appears normal. both the 'search' and 'languages' sections are empty of items.

im using a fresh install of mediawiki 1.13.3.

This skin is great, I'm looking forward to use it. The problem is that is quite outdated and it doesn't work well with the latest mediawiki versions. Will it ever be updated?

Thank you.
